●Nose●
Fresh sweat. A shower with Badedas. Arousingly aromatic. Perfume. Rose water.
●Palate●
Creamy. Turkish delight.
●Finish●
Very emphatic tea character.
●Comment●
Those oily aromatics are quite a shock at first. Shows just how different a true 'Irish' character 15 years ago, or does Jameson benefit greatly from age?
Jim Murray (8 3/4)
●Nose●
The raisiny, deftly honeyed brittle pot still eventually dominates the spice. Brooding stuff.
●Palate●
Jameson Gold shafts of honey pierce the oaky, barley-rich intensity. Excellent bittersweet balance, but tending on the sweetish side.
●Finish●
Docked marks for a slight briefness of finish. Hints of cocoa towards the end.
●Comment●
Sensational stuff of a style universally unique to Irish whiskey, the Midleton distillery in particular. A classic
NO. 1 HANYU 1988 JAPANESE OAK, 55.6% ABV
(Cask No. 9501 - bottled in 2007)
Nose: Packed full of intense, bright aromas: vanilla pod, lemon zest, white chocolate. There's a strange exoticism like Tibetan salt chocolate and a whiff of black olive tapenade. The light smoke adds another touch to the pattern of aromas.
Palate: Good breath of character and intensity with a light smokiness. Water needs to be added.
Finish: Tarry rope. Great length.
Comments: Another which typifies the Japanese style of light pure whiskies with amazing precision. DAVE BROOM
